Chekhov Premiere at Szigligeti Theatre

The press conference for the last big stage premiere in the season of 2015/2016 took place on Friday, 11 March. Chekhov's classic Three Sisters will be put to the stage by Attila Balogh, returning to Oradea with his usual creative team.

“Szigligeti Theatre considers it its mission to offer a chance to talented young artists. This team has already proven its aptitude by their successful studio play The Seventh Stair – Stories after Hrabal, and we thought that this year we can continue our collaboration with a big-stage production” – Szigligeti Theatre's general director Katalin Czvikker said.

Attila Balogh has presented his colleagues and his work method. “We have known each other with dramaturgist Zsolt Benedek and scenographer Előd Golicza for over ten years, as we have all started out in the student theatre group Osonó in Sf. Gheorghe, an aspect that has long defined our theatrical interest. The core of the team is the three of us, along with costume designer Evelin Hotykai. This time, choreographer Csaba Györfi and composer Aga Daniel (alias Danaga) has also joined our creative team.” The director also added that it is an extraordinary daring thing on their part to try to put one of Chekhov's best-known and hardest dramas to the stage by allowing the text and the world of the Russian playwright to prevail in all its splendor.

Zsolt Benedek said that the most difficult aspect of the drama is the fact that the most important events in the plot take place outside off-stage, and there are no real confrontations in the scenes: “this is a drama of children, little girls that are unable to grow up, living their father's dream instead of their own” – the dramaturgist added.
