Erika Szabó: „These Are Questions Worth Asking”

Erika Szabó is currently a fifth year student at the Budapest Academy of Film and Theatre, but her name may sound familiar from the TV show Barátok Közt, or even from the big screen. On the 25th of March, she will play in Oradea, in Shakespeare's Richard III, in Szigligeti Studio.

“The interesting thing about our Richard III is that the whole play is interpreted by 4 actors” - the actress says. “I personally play Elisabeth and Lady Anne, two really serious female roles. Richard III himself is played by one actor, while the other two play all the other smaller roles, which are really challenging roles even separately, but this makes the whole play a little more interesting dramaturgically.

Shakespeare is an author who is timely in any age. A real genious. His texts have so many hidden layers – that we, the actors try to elaborate – that they are worth dealing with by themselves. We also try to introduce our own thoughts about life and the world we live in right now, horribly interwoven with politics, the games of the powerful. These are questions worth asking, and this play can be a good apropos for that” – she says.
