What remains of a human being when even the victors are no longer victorious? When the past weighs like a burden upon the generations to come? When the gods fall silent, old certainties begin to crumble, and fragile human beings stand where heroes once stood?

Euripides’ plays were born in a time when a once seemingly secure world order was already beginning to unravel. They do not speak of glory, but of the price it demands — a price to be paid by the survivors and by the generations that follow. Of the impossibility of returning home. Of inherited guilt. Of the loss of trust.

Orestes will be at the heart of this production. Around him gather stories of fate that come from the worlds of Euripides’ The Trojan Women, Hecuba, Iphigenia, and other plays. They do not tell a single story, but fragments of human lives intertwined with one another: those of mothers, children, returnees, and exiles.

The Song of Mortals is a production that asks questions in an age when we once again experience how easily everything we believed to be certain can slip from beneath our feet. When trust — in one another, in our community, in the future — becomes fragile. What, then, can we, mortals, hold on to?
