Ady 100 - Commemorating a Great Poet

Several events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of poet Endre Ady’s death took place on 27 January, organized by Szigligeti Theatre and Várad Cultural Magazine. There were two theatre shows, as well as a poem marathon.

At the issue launch at 3 pm, authors of the anniversary edition of Várad Cultural Magazine, dedicated to the memory of Ady, talked about how they relate to the life and work of the poet. Besides texts commemorating the poet, this year’s first issue of Várad includes visual artwork, but also sheet music, all of these featured in an exhibition on the spot.

At 4 pm, the commemorative showWho Has Seen Ady? was performed (directed by László Harsányi Sulyom) in the studio, followed, at 7 pm, by The Lost Cavalier (directed by Péter Tasnádi-Sáhy) in the theatre’s auditorium. After the evening show, all those interested were kindly invited to recite their favorite poem or article by Endre Ady. Actors, well-respected citizens of Oradea, high school students and many others shared their most beloved texts by reciting or reading them out loud, in front of the audience.

This year, Várad Cultural Magazine and Szigligeti Theatre intend to organize many events to commemorate the great Hungarian poet. Among others, we plan to have a public reading of Ady’s only dramatic text, a walk with Ady, as well as a literary conference.
