The Misanthrope in Budapest

On the 14th of March, at 7 PM, Szigligeti Company performs Molière's comedy The Misanthrope in Budapest, at József Attila Theatre. The show was directed by Eszter Novák, the company's art director.

“When a theatre decides to play The Misanthrope, it is hoping to create, by the genius of Molière, a show that can shake up its community and make it think. Hoping that to make the world a better place is something that theatre is for” – Eszter Novák has said, adding: “real-life misanthropes confront us with our sleekness, our condonance, our readiness to make compromise, and with our personal and social bargainings.”

Respecting the translation by György Petri (dramaturg: Péter Kárpáti) attempts to reformulate the morals of the classical comedy on the language of 21st century people, uttering its judgement about the lack of values in the world of appearances that is evoked in the show.

Set desaign: Ianis Vasilatos, costume design: Florina Bellinda Vasilatos. Cast: Levente Dimény, József Szotyori, Róbert Kardos M., Noémi Tasnádi-Sáhy, Tünde Tóth, Csilla Ababi, Attila Balogh, Eduárd Szabó, Csaba Kiss, Gyula Kocsis.
