202 Years From the Birth of Ede Szigligeti

Actors of Szigligeti Theatre commemorated the birth anniversary of their spiritual patron on the 8th of March. Ede Szigligeti was born 202 years ago on this very day, in 1814, in Oradea. Originally named József Szathmáry was destined to be a priest, yet later he studied engineering. He changed his name into Ede Szigligeti in 1834, the year he joined the Buda theatre. Later, he gained national success as a playwright, a stage director and theatre director.
