Second Day of Holnap Után Festival

The second day of Holnap Után Festival had two very interesting events for everyone who joined us. First, there was an exhibition opening titled War and Propaganda, featuring WW1 posters from the collection of Széchényi National Library Budapest, in the first floor foyer of Szigligeti Theatre. The opening speech was made by literary historian László Boka.

Following the opening, a roundtable discussion took place about the life and work of Tamás Emőd, titled Poetry, Cabaret, Song. After the introduction by Attila Sorbán, László Boka, István Verebes and Zsuzsanna Rózsafalvi took part in the discussion. The very original polyhistor wrote a great number of poems, cabarets and songs, his poems were put to music. His sense of humour made him an exception among his peers, while at the same time trying to adapt to the spirit of the era. At the roundtable, they asked the question: is the genre of cabaret still alive today? According to István Verebes, the genre itself is extinct, but the specifically Hungarian bittersweet humour is very much alive.
