It Was Born in Cluj-Napoca

Attila Gáspárik's new book, published by Ábel Press, and titled It Was Born in Cluj-Napoca, will be presented on 23 December, Tuesday, at 6 pm, in Illyés Gyula bookstore.

In several cities of Transylvania, evening by evening, the curtain rises, and the actors present the play. Behind this very simple sentence, though, there are some very long stories. For centuries, an almost desperate fight for acceptance of Hungarian theatre, and after its founding, the reckless counterwork by the different powers... Of course, there were also some success stories. One of these is the superior theatre school, founded in 1946, in Cluj. From one day to the next, Hungarians in Transylvania had a university-level acting and directing school. Attila Gáspárik's new book It Was Born in Cluj-Napoca, published by Ábel Press, talks about these legendary times. A book about the school that gave us Szabó Lajika, Miske László, Csíki Ibolya, and many others. In itt, witnesses of this new start also tell their stories – all of them legendary artists such as Csíki András, Tanai Bella, Földes László, László Gerő, Taub János, Orosz Lujza, Lohinszky Lóránd, Senkálszky Endre. The reader will be able to study documents that, before, have only been available to tenacious researchers, in forgotten archives.
