Abigél in Szigligeti Theatre

The audience of Oradea will have the chance to see the stage adaptation of Magda Szabó's novel Abigél, performed by Bánfalvy Studio on Saturday, 22 November, at 7 pm, in Szigligeti Theatre.

Since 3almost four decades, Abigél is in the center of readers' interest, either the novel, published countless times, or the TV series based on it, broadcast almost yearly by television channels. The story of Georgina Vitay and her classmates is an organic part of our cultural identity, one that plays a defining role in the lives of many generations. Ági Bánfalvy, one of the protagonists of the 1978 TV show, has now adapted this beloved work to the stage, with help from director János Szikora. The play has an all-star cast: besides acclaimed artists, it features today's popular young actors, well-known for small and big screen appearances, such as Ferenc Hujber, Ramóna Kiss, Dénes Száraz. With a pinch of freshness, the show strives to be as faithful to the original as possible, presenting the emotional story of the students and teachers of Matula Girls' School during the Second World War just the way Magda Szabó has put it on paper.
