Peasant Opera – the first premiere of the 2026/2027 season is approaching

The Szigligeti Company is preparing for the first premiere of its 2026/2027 season. Peasant Opera, written by Darvas Benedek and Pintér Béla and directed by Attila Balogh, will be presented to audiences in Oradea on 3 September at the Transilvania Hall.

We invite our audiences on a whirlwind journey of less than an hour and a half through one of the most turbulent days in the life of the Balog family. Young Roland is preparing to get married, unaware that within a matter of minutes his life will change completely. Not because he is about to marry Etelka, who is expecting their child, while he is in love with his own stepsister… But because secrets are revealed that will turn the lives of two families upside down.

In this contemporary Hungarian opera, filled with unexpected twists and exuberant humour, Baroque music blends with the musical world of Hungarian folk traditions. Peasant Opera is surprising, heartbreaking and liberatingly funny all at once, promising an unforgettable theatrical and musical experience.

Only a limited number of tickets remain for the premiere on 3 September. Those wishing to see the production at a later date can already book tickets for the performance on 23 September.
