The Szigligeti Theatre of Oradea Joins the Hungarian Theatre Society

The Szigligeti Theatre of Oradea has been admitted as a member of the Hungarian Theatre Society. This year, the Society opened its doors to Hungarian theatres beyond Hungary's borders, and at its General Assembly held on 22 June 2026, our theatre was among the first institutions to join the organization.

Alongside the Szigligeti Theatre of Oradea, the Society welcomed several distinguished Hungarian theatres from outside Hungary, including the Figura Studio Theatre (Gheorgheni), the Csíki Játékszín (Miercurea Ciuc), the Csiky Gergely Hungarian State Theatre (Timișoara), the Tomcsa Sándor Theatre (Odorheiu Secuiesc) and the Udvartér Theatre (Sfântu Gheorghe).

The Hungarian Theatre Society is one of the leading professional umbrella organizations of Hungarian theatre, bringing together theatres, cultural institutions and professional organizations. Its mission is to preserve and promote the values of Hungarian theatre, foster professional dialogue, and strengthen cooperation within the theatrical community.

For the Szigligeti Theatre of Oradea, this membership creates new opportunities to expand professional relationships both in Hungary and across Hungarian theatre communities beyond its borders. It also opens the way for future collaborations and enables us to take an even more active role in the professional life of Hungarian-language theatre.
