Song of Songs
State Jewish Theatre, Bucharest
A performance by Alexander Hausvater
Translation [into Yiddish]: H. Hirsch
Translation [into Romanian]: Sorin Rosen
This is a performance about fulfilling one’s potential for love, about the necessity of surviving through love, characterized by a dynamic rhythm, music, and video projections.
At the heart of the performance is the discovery of Solomon’s words. A performer presents something on stage that evokes a phrase from the Song of Songs, and through returning to Solomon’s words, rediscovers himself. It is a search for the ideal, for the potential within us that remains unrealized and unfulfilled.
The script is woven from stories, encounters, relationships, dreams, a labyrinth of people, and the search for the true, profound meaning of Solomon’s words, of the dream and of making that dream a reality. For in modern society, people meet, but they no longer truly touch each other; they fail to realize love.
As you move through the various events of life, you hear quotations from the Song of Songs within yourself, and you resonate with them according to your experiences and the particular moment in life in which you find yourself.
