PEASANT OPERA

Ballad in Operatic Form

Translated by::

A fast-paced journey of just under ninety minutes into one of the most turbulent days in the life of the Balog family, a rural Hungarian household. This is the day young Roland is about to get married, completely unaware that within minutes his life will be turned upside down. Not because he is marrying Etelka, who is expecting their child, while secretly in love with his own stepsister... but because long-buried secrets come to light that will forever transform the lives of both families.

Filled with unexpected twists and earthy humour, this contemporary Hungarian opera blends the rich sound of Baroque music with the vibrant traditions of Hungarian folk music. If you're curious to discover an opera that is at once startling, deeply moving, and irresistibly funny, this is a performance you won't want to miss. It offers an unforgettable theatrical and musical experience.
