"One of the most beautiful pieces of the tales of the Thousand and One Nights is now in musical form, with magical music, lots of humour and a few lessons for your entertainment. The enchanting and mysterious world of the fabulous East still lives in the souls of us all—a world of ghosts, wizards, thieves, poor but honest people, and dazzling treasures. We wanted to write a play that would enchant adults and children alike for two hours. A musical whose musical language is equally spoken by all ages. A story that dad, mum and children can share. In short, a real, long-awaited family musical. These days, there are few programmes that the whole family can enjoy together. In our experience, someone has to make a deal to entertain the others. We hope that everyone will find something to enjoy in this performance.
Venczel Péter, with whom we collaborated on the rock musical Mátyás a vérpadon (Matthias on the Bloodstage), approached me with the idea for Ali Baba. I took out the Thousand and One Nights and read the story. An hour later, Peter got the phone call saying I would be happy to write the play and the poems. It has been almost two years since. The work is finished, and all you have to do, dear audience, is to sit in the audience and whisper the magic phrase: Sesame, open up!"
