The Attic
musical
Translated by::
Between Heaven and Earth, for 35 years “The Attic” has stood tall — a hugely successful tale that is half fairy tale, half musical.
When this story was written, no one could have imagined that one of the most hotly debated issues in computer science would one day be the rise of artificial intelligence.
Our protagonist, Rádi — a young scientist who has been dismissed from his job — creates a machine equipped with facial recognition software, capable of self-improvement, and even of changing the weather in an instant… Once, such things belonged to the world of fairy tales, but today, machines like Robinson are part of our everyday lives.
Rádi, the inventor, is so absorbed in science and in the system he has created that he fails to see that there is life beyond it. Yet there are people who love him and rely on him: Süni, a music academy student who, despite her fragility, is a true heroine; Mamóka, whose greatest wish is to have a grandchild; and the spirits of forgotten fairy-tale heroes who cannot reach the Realm of Eternal Light without the Ferryman’s help.
Rádi is forced to break out of his routine when detectives arrive — followed by Témüller, an informant even more sinister than the terrorist Barrabás.
Love and friendship, life and the hope of an afterlife, thrilling twists and moments of mystery drive this story and its heroes.
And as Gábor Presser’s beautiful, well-known music fills the air, everything falls into place — just as it should in a true fairy tale.
