Cactus Flower

Comedy in two parts

Translated by:: Ottó Szombati Gille

Julien is an unmarried dentist who loves women dearly but is an adamant bachelor who dreads marriage. However, his girlfriend Antonia wants to get married, yet Julien lies about being married and having children. Antonia attempts suicide but is saved by her neighbour, young Igor. Julien then decides to get married, after all. But he must get a divorce! Antonia, in the meantime, wants to meet his ex-wife to make sure that they are truly estranged. Julien then asks his assistant, Stephanie, who has worked for him for years, to come to the meeting and be his wife for a short time. In the meantime, it turns out that Antonia's only true match is Igor, while Stéphanie's long-held love is also returned. A prickly cactus with a poignant tone, Stéphanie blossoms in moments of love and happiness.

The play, a French comedy to the core, has been a great success on stages all around the world, has been made into a film and a musical version has been performed in many places. The Oradea Theatre has performed the prose version.
