Happiness Hunters
Nonverbal physical dance-theatre
Translated by::
Nonverbal physical dance-theatre based on The Unhappy Ones, a play by Milán Füst, and Requiem for a Dream, a film by Darren Aronofsky Happiness Hunters is an intense, body-focused physical theatre performance that evokes the raw, soul-straining human relationships of Milán Füst’s The Unhappy Ones and the troubled, visually intense world of Darren Aronofsky’s Requiem for a Dream.
A key element common to these two masterpieces is that the characters are stuck in an imaginary corridor, a tunnel from which they cannot find an exit. Balancing on the edge of despair, they try to live, or rather, survive.
We clearly see what each character would need to change in their life in order to escape and move forward. Just like in our everyday lives, we see other people’s problems clearly and often know what might help them. From the outside, things always look clearer. But how do we deal with our own search for happiness? Do we see the way out in time when problems arise? Do we notice the helping hand reaching toward us?
The performance seeks answers to such questions, based on the belief that happiness lies not in big things but in small touches, glances, and gestures. We just need to see and recognize them because they are there.
