We create them. We deny them.
Do we know what we want? Do we feel the city? How does the city feel about us?
We discover it. We don't know it. We adore it. We detest it.
We always take a part of the city with us.
What does the city take from us? What does it give to us? And what do we give it?
We pack. We unpack. We unpack. We pack.
We look for Ady in Oradea. We look for Márai in Košice. And we always bump into ourselves.
We look for ourselves in Oradea and in Košice. Will we bump into Ady, into Márai?
Two cities. Košice – wise, safe and calm –, and Oradea – hectic, pulsating, unpredictable. Two authors. The civic and the boheme. The traditionalist and the eternal rebel. The sythetist and the prophet. The European thinker and the offspring of shamans. Self-control and frenzy. The elegant gentleman and the nonconformist. The observant classic and visionary genius. Is this what we are like in Košice? Is this what we are like in Oradea? Márai and Ady both had opinions of their own, and declared them, sometimes with pride and confidence, sometimes tormented and unsure. We, too, have thoughts – then let's try to voice them, stutter, declare or just spit it out.
Our journey can be even more exciting. From mind to mind, thought to thought, past to future, city to city, reality to fiction, from outside in, from Košice, Oradea, Ady, Márai, into ourselves.
Czajlik József graruated the Hungarian Industrial High School in Košice, in 1993. He became a member of Thalia Theatre in Košice, then between 1994—1995, Jókai Theatre in Komárom, then he returned to Thalia. Afterwards, from 1997—2002, he studied directing in Bratislava, then became main director at the Bárka Theatre in Budapest. In 2007, he founded a theatrical workshop naped Epopteia, with Gál Tamás. Today, he is the director of Thalia Theatre in Košice
