New Premieres This Week

Szigligeti Theatre invites audiences to the opening night of its new productions this week: on 17 November, at 19:00, Szigliget Company plays The Visit of the Old Lady, whereas on 21 November, at 19:00, Nagyvárad Ensemble takes the stage with Antigone.

As it’s second big stage premiere, the company performs Friedrich Dürrenmatt's classic play featuring each actor of the theatre, directed by Novák Eszter. On the tragicomedic story of a love vendetta, the director previously said: “One of the hardest challenges in the forthcoming play is to tell a story of pettiness and self-righteousness with humor that is constantly on the verge of crossing the line – essentially, to present it with enough distance, so that no one feels detached or left out.”  Szigligeti season tickets are valid for the performance on November 17. The performance can be viewed two more times throughout november: on the 21st, from 19:00 with Halasi season tickets and on the 28th, from 17:00 with Papp Magda-season tickets.

Nagyvárad Ensemble will present a dance theatre adaptation of Sophocles' tragedy Antigone on 21 November at 19:00 in the Enescu-Bartók Hall of the Oradea State Philharmonic. The greek classic about the excesses of power over morality will be staged with contemporary movement theatre and hip-hop elements by director-choreographer Csaba Györfi, who previously told us: “The feud between Antigone and Kreon is not just a clash of wills, but a conflict of a much higher order, a clash between the human and the divine world order. From today’s perspective, these disagreements are very much topical and valid human and social issues".

Tickets for the play are already avalible at the theaters box office, or at www.szigligeti.biletmaster.ro. Under current regulations, persons under the age of 12 are admitted to performances at Szigliget Theatre without restrictions, while persons over 12 must have a valid EU COVID certificate proving full vaccination or recovery from illness. Wearing a mask and practicing social distancing during the play is mandatory.
