Szigligeti Summer Evenings: Refreshing and Quality Entertainment

After a brief vacation, Szigligeti Theatre returns with a special summer offer. Between the 30th of July – 2nd of September, Szigligeti Summer Evenings will take place on the open-air stage of the Fortress of  Nagyvárad, where, alongside quality theatrical plays, children's programs, dance and music will play the main role.

At the event's press conference, general director Czvikker Katalin said: “We are glad to finally be able to conquer the Fortress. The two associations that work beside the theatre have already moved into the rooms that they had been given by the local administration, and now, we have everything we need to take the open-air stage itself, with guest plays and our own productions.” The manager also said all three companies will be represented at the festival: first event will be organized by  Nagyvárad Ensemble's partner in organizing this year's Infinite Dance Festival, Unique Dance Studio, who, on the 30th, will organize a charitable dance marathon to raise money for chronically ill children's Yuppi Camp. Bafolse Dance Company from Argentina (Ballet Folklórico Latinoamericano Santiago del Estero) will visit us in collaboration with the Debrecen Flower Carnival. After touring several states of South America, the US, Canada and numerous European countries, this is the first time they will perform in Romania. Their folcloric mission has won them several international awards. The event will take place on the 15th of August.

On the 19th of August, Szigligeti Company will have a very special premiere: Székely Csaba's popular tragicomedy Mine Flower will be actor Hunyadi István's directorial debut. About the play that has previously been heard on public readings, the young artist declared: „We expect a really joyful play from the actor's part. The best proof for this is the fact that they will take part in this special rehearsal process in their own free time, during which they will have the chance to play on the fortress' stage for the very first time.” The play will appear in the theatre's new season.

Between 22—26 August, Lilliput Company will organize a Puppet Camp. “Our artists have participated in the Esztergom Puppet Camp for decades, and this year, they decided to bring this children's program to Nagyvárad. Participants will work in groups for four days, then on the 27th of August, they will present their work results to their families. Registration is now closed, we will host 50 children in the camp” –  Botházy-Daróczi Réka said. The puppet company's art director added that there will be a theatre camp, too, in Havasrekettye, where actors and child actors will start preparing the musical The Ugly Duckling, led by actress-director Tóth Tünde.

On the 29th of August, Szigligeti Theatre will take part in the Szent  László Family Days organized by the local Roman Catholic Diocese, then the next day,  Peller Károly, Oszvald Marika and Szendy Szilvi will perform operettas on the fortress' stage. Also in this location, on the 2nd of September,  Koós János and Koós Réka will give a special family concert.

In case of bad weather, open-air performances will take place in the theatre. Tickets can be purchased, beginning with the 12th of July, at the theatre's booking office. In this period,  the theatre's booking office is open Tuesday to Friday 2 to 7PM. Those who have had season tickets in the past 5 years will get significant discounts on the entry fees.
