Acclaimed Artists and Young Talents at the 6th HolnapUtán Festival

Szigligeti Theatre Oradea is organizing the sixth edition of HolnapUtán Festival, between 20—25 March 2018. During the six days of the festival, 11 companies from Transylvania and Hungary will present 13 shows. Besides the guest performances, there will be discussions, workshops, concerts, and an exhibition opening. This year's edition was presented on 15 February, in a press conference.

“The number of spectators a last year's edition, as well as the feedback from the public and from theatre professionals have made it clear that the new concept of “HolnapUtán” Festival is attractive and successful. In this context, it was obvious that this year, too, we would be continuing to present young and talented artists, as well as to collaborate with the acting academies of the Carpathian Basin” – Katalin Czvikker, managing director of Szigligeti Theatre has said. She added: “Thanks to our sponsors, we are able to offer a more diverse line-up than ever before. Also, we are lucky enough to have some of the most acclaimed Hungarian theatre companies as our guests, such as Tamási Áron Theatre Sf. Gheorghe, Vörösmarty Theatre Székesfehérvár, and also Katona József Theatre Budapest, one of the top-notch theatre companies in Europe, who have never played in Oradea before”.

About the artistic concept, Márta Fazakas, main organizer of the festival declared: “In our selection, we were and are interested in the way young artists approach classic plays. In this year's program, there are contemporary adaptations of texts by Shakespeare, Ibsen, Büchner, Katona and Wedekind, among others, put to the stage by acclaimed young directors such as Kriszta Székely, named Best Director at the Pécs National Theatre Reunion in 2017, Dániel Kovács D., winner of the Junior Prima Award, or Sardar Tagirovsky, winner of multiple festival prizes. At the same time, we are happy to announce that Bálint Botos, born in Salonta, will present his show for the first time in Szigligeti Theatre, besides the first shows directed in an official theatre institution by Anna Horváth and Péter Tasnádi-Sáhy.

Studio Performances

On the first day of the festival, Szigligeti Company will perform its show Goalpost and Own Goal, which premiered in September 2017. The performance is about the cruelty of bullying in school as well as love that conquers all. The next studio performance in the schedule will be Liget (Grove) by Waitingroom Project Cluj Napoca, at 7 PM on 21st of March. The show presents the story of an actress who visits her family's home and is forced to face her past. On 22 March, it will be time for a classroom performance by Waitingroom Project, Bánk Bán? Jelen!.
