Musical New Year with Szigligeti Theatre

Szigligeti Theatre Oradea is preparing theatrical and musical delicacies in the first month of the new year: besides a musical comedy, an opera, and an operetta, the Kodály Philharmonics of Debrecen, Hungary will also be our guest.

Quarantine at the Grand Hotel, based on the novel by Jenő Rejtő, and adapted to the stage by Kornél Hamvai, Benedek Darvas, and Dániel Varró, to be presented on New Year's Eve, will be played four times in January: on the 2nd, at 7 pm, on the 6th, at 5 pm (Papp Magda season ticket), on the 7th at 7 pm (Halasi Gyula season ticket), and on the 31st of January, at 7 pm (Ady Endre season ticket).

Harag György Company of the Northern Theatre Satu Mare is coming to Oradea with its operetta Csókos asszony. The show premiered last year, and will be played at Szigligeti Theatre on the 13th of January (Tanay Emil season ticket), and on the 14th of January (Bessenyei György season ticket).

On 22 January, at 6 pm, on the Day of Hungarian Culture, the Kodály Philharmonics of Debrecen will give a guest performance on the stage of Szigligeti Theatre. Thanks to the collaboration between Bihor County Council and the Township of Debrecen, the sister city's classical music orchestra will present well-known works of composer Zoltán Kodály. The concert features the Kodály Choir and the Kodály Philharmonics.

O 27 January, at 6 pm, the Hungarian Opera of Cluj-Napoca will perform the opera buffa Our Lady's Knight on the stage of Szigligeti Theatre. The libretto of the opera is written by Attila Béres, its set and costumes are designed by Oradea artists Ianis Vasilatos and Florina Bellinda Vasilatos. Directed by Eszter Novák, the performance presents legends about Saint Ladislaus. In an earlier interview, the director has said: “The story is, at the same time, entertaining, funny, and uplifting. The music is human-centered, gives joy to listeners with less musical knowledge, but also those open to culinary crosstalk, and musical humour. At the heart of the story (besides evoking the legends of St. Ladislaus, bearing a great importance in our cultural history, in a surprising and unique context), there is faith: zeal, at its most positive meaning, which, if strong enough, is able to reach its goal, to change the world a little bit. If we sometimes reach this blessed stubbornness, full of conviction, that the opera's protagonists represent – we can be content”. The event's patron is Mr. Sándor Pásztor, president of the Bihor City Council. Tickets for the extraordinary performance will be available from 9 January, at the theatre's booking office.

Seats for the January musical shows can be booked at the theatre's booking office (open Monday to Friday 2 to 7 pm), or online, at www.biletmaster.ro.
