A message arrives from the Enchanted Forest...
What can a “children’s” play be about, where we see a six-year-old boy’s dreams woven in his playroom, where his animal friends come to life, bumbling, playing cunningly, gifting with jealousy, timidly nibbling, and composing poetry?
What’s missing from our “grown-up” lives? How long can we carry our toys with us, the direct, clear, and uncalculated outpouring of our love? When we turn 100, what will become of our 99-year-old toys?
Bombs explode, forests, animals, biosphere, and atmosphere are being destroyed, and ideological-ethnic-minority-based trenches are being dug between people and groups of people all over the world. “Even brothers become enemies,” says a song from somewhere. Christopher Robin, with his six-year-old wisdom, Pooh-Bear with his charming growl, together with the others—Rabbit, Piglet, Owl, Tigger, Kanga, Roo, and Eeyore—send a message about the wonder and importance of LOVE and PLAY. This is a warning from the Forest, and it may be just as noteworthy for adults as it is for children. In the world we are given to live in, and in the one we are shaping with great struggle for our growing children, we should make a great space for LOVE and PLAY. And we should pay attention to every similar message, whether it comes from Nyilas Misi, Nemecsek Ernő, or the Little Prince who feels responsible for a flower. Neither the mountain bike, nor the flashing rollerblades, nor the daily portion of chips, snacks, nor the many mechanical toys and computer marvels can replace the light and greatness of LOVE. But that’s the hardest thing to radiate deeply, truly, and responsibly toward another person—child, animal—whomever, wherever we go.
