András Salamon

Barefoot in the Dew

Translated by::

“The play by András Salamon, a novice playwright from Sepsiszentgyörgy, was included in the program of the Szigligeti Theatre as a premiere. The play is set at the end of the Second World war. It is about the story and experiences of the escaped soldiers of the losing side of the war in a realistic manner including dreamlike scenes. Because the author was not alive during the war, he relied on the memories of others. «I have no personal experience about the war, but I have absorbed the stories about wartime adventures and tragedies of our family members, repeated over and over again, along with my mother tongue».

The action takes place on a mountain farm during a night of the last war, in a tiny region caught between two armies, the defeated ones fleeing, and one of the victoriously advancing. People numbed by and suffering from the miseries of war, seeking escape, reassurance and the possibilities to survive during the time of the apocalypse, waiting for a humane world in the midst of inhumanity. Beside the present, the past and the future are also being represented in form of a series of visions – it is a chain of lyrical scenes on the stage that captures the imagination of the audience.” (Béla Nagy – Preliminary, Fáklya)
