Week of Hungarian Culture

Between 22—27 January, Szigligeti Theatre celebrates the Week of Hungarian Culture with three extraordinary shows: a classical music concert, an opera buffa, and a literature-inspired dance theatre premiere.

On 22 January, at 6 PM, our theatre hosts a concert by the Kodály Philharmonic Debrecen. At the classical concert organized by the cultural institutions of Bihor county and the township of Debrecen, the orchestra and the choir will perform Psalmus Hungaricus, Dances from Galánta, and Te Deum of Budavár. Before the concert, an awards ceremony will take place.

On 23 January, at 7 PM, Kultúrkúria's (Budapest) Hedry Mária will perform Zrínyi Ilona at Szigligeti Studio. Through the versatile and interesting character and dramatic fate of Zrínyi Ilona, the monodrama presents one of the most complicated and controversial period of Hungarian history. Tickets for the show are available for 20 Lei at full price, and 10 Lei for students and pensioners.

On 26 January, at 7 PM, Nagyvárad Ensemble presents the dance theatre show Nobody's Bird, based on the novella by Szabó T. Anna. The performance demonstrates the harmony between some of the elements of urban and rural setting as well as Eastern and Western culture, using the language of dance, music and poetry, and showing the nature of love and the healing power of tales. For the premiere, Szigligeti season tickets are valid, and tickets are available in limited number at the theatre's booking office, or online, at www.biletmaster.ro.

On 27 January, at 6 PM, Selmeczi György's opera buffa Our Lady's Knight is coming to Oradea, thanks to the collaboration between the Hungarian Opera of Cluj and the Budapest Palace of Arts. The story of the opera is centered around the character of the knight-king Saint Ladislaus, the town's founder. The event's patron is Pásztor Sándor, president of Bihor County Council. Tickets are available for 20 Lei at the theatre's booking office.

Those who wish to see the classical music concert as well as the opera buffa Our Lady's Knight can buy combined tickets for a discount price. For booking please visit the theatre's booking office, open Monday to Friday 2—7 PM, or one hour before the start of the shows.
